How do I treat my Dog who has matted hair dandruff??? and smell?

My dog is fed salmon daily for other skin smells. This plus having the vet FIANLLY realize it was anal glands that needed emptying!!!have elminated the feces smell!!!thank GOD! now she has on her top back-matted like hair, what seems like dandruff under it(skin looks clear and white-no bumps spotted) and the hair or skin or both smell. She doesnt seem to be itching there. Its just smelly and matted looking. Does anyone have an idea what it is and how to treat it? thanks

You don't say what kind of dog you have, but I guess it's one with long hair. You can brush the hair on her back and try to get rid of the matting, or you can take her to the groomers and they will give her a good bath, and get rid of any matting.

The dandruff could just be dry skin. Many dogs get dry skin in the winter, we've got the heat turned up, and it can dry the skin out. If it isn't, she may have some kind of sebborreah, and you can use specific medicated shampoo that will help with that condition. Your local Petsmart or Petco should have something that would work.

Check out this website, www.dinovite.com

They have a supplement that'll fix all of these problems and more. It's not that expensive, only $25 I think....it might be worth a try.

you might have the vet check her thyroid levels.

If it is smelly and flakey it could be a yeast infection on the skin. It would be important to get the matting off so the skin can breath. If the matts are pretty tight don't try to brush them out, this will hurt the dog and possible irritate the skin further. Get a groomer to shave it for you and see your vet before this gets worse.
