Dog Hair Loss = Allergy?

My lab mix appears to be losing a large amount of hair. He is always shedding like crazy and he has bald patches on this chest, thighs and rump. Anywhere he has those bald patches I can see little reddish-brown scabby bumps. What's causing this and how do I fix it?

Dog Hair Loss = Allergy?

this is an issue to talk to the vet about....it could be an allergy, mites, or even a fungal infection of the skin (such as ringworm) or a bacteria. no matter which issue it is, none of them can be treated at home. none of the reasons that would cause a dog to lose hair are treatable without the care of a veterinarian. good luck!!

he could have mites , take to veterinarian for skin scraping to see if he does

If you see no sign of fleas then yes allergies. My aunts pom had allergies.. bless the little thing, hair fell out sking was red and inflamed then she would start scratching which cause all kinds of problems. She had to take allergy shots.

I'm not 100% sure but sounds like he could have mites or mange - check he hasn't got fleas. If you are unsure get him checked by a vet, he might have developed an allergy to his food. Maybe try changing his food to a hypo allergenic one and adding olive oil to his food everyday. But it's causing him distress - talk to your vet.

it could be allergies, or ring worm. also, hormonal or metabolic imbalances can cause hair loss.

before you can fix it, you need to take him to the vet to find out why he's losing hair. the treatment is different depending on the cause.

It could be allergies, it could me mange, it could be a skin infection. The best way to fix it is to take it to the vet and have them diagnose it through a skin scraping.

Good luck!
