1 yr old female Maltese hair is thinning out, I was told that it was due from her pregnancy a few months ago, her puppies are taking her nutrients away from her. What type of supplements do I need to give her?

Pregnancy due to hair thinning? That's a new one! Take her to the vet.
Oh,fish and eggs may help.

I doubt very much if the pregnancy was due to the hair thinning! (Sorry, couldn't resist ; D )
It is very normal for a ***** to drop her coat after whelping, usually she is naked right when you have people looking at pups!
If she is on a high quality dog food, she shouldn't need any supplements. It'll grow back.

oily fish (pichards / tuna / sardines) is very good for a dog's coat, as is egg. So try the occasional tin of cat food (my long haired dog loves it!), just cheap no-brand fish, also a beaten egg now %26amp; then. Some mothers will insist on pulling their hair out to line their nest %26amp; get a bit carried away!
cheers

I year is young, so the pregnancy, whelping and nursing has most likely depleated her. Give her some pet vitamins. My dogs like the liver flavored ones. After my female has a litter I give her about 5-10 of these a day(she is a large breed). I also give her wet puppy food along with her regular dry food. 3 times a week I give her cooked Ground beef with all of the fat drained off. and I give her special treats of peanut butter. She is usually back to her normal weight and activity level by 6 weeks. Another thing to think about is the time of year. Warmer weather = less hair. I dont know where you live, but ere in Ca. we are having nice warm weather and both of my dogs have been shedding their winter coats all over the house.
Good Luck!

Most vets and folks that know highly suggest that the mom should be on high quality puppy chow during the pregnancy and a few months following weaning of pups. The Maltese is not a sturdy breed to begin with.
I assume the pups are well weaned off the mom. Keep her on puppy chow and add a calcium supplement, check with vet for dosage and purchase. Low calcium levels can really take a toll, to include the coat, teeth, bones. I am assuming you did have your mom checked out after the pups???! If not, then take her in for exam and possible bloodwork to check levels. I do not consider this exam a "luxury" situation. Then please consider spaying her.

I wouldn't worry too much. My female Boston Terrier lost a lot of fur when she was nursing even tho she only had one puppy. The vet said it was normal and since the puppy has grown and weened she has started filling back in. Just give it some time, she will be fine

You are right. Should have her on puppy food and things that are high in nutients. We gave vitiamens and had plenty of eggs to give around here. Just ask a vet what the think would be good that you have around the house. Who does not know that a lot of dogs shed more while mothering pups? It is like that bald spot on the bridge of a mama poodles nose.

The dog was too young to have pups. A vet should be asked any type of questions relating to your dog. Hair loss is not natural and it could be some underlying problem. Taking a change by guessing could cost you a lot more in vets fees down the road if you don't give her what she needs. Get her fixed.
