You tip your hair stylist, but you don't tip your dog groomer, why is that??

I have owned a dog grooming salon for over 8 yrs, and hardly get tipped. Is it because its your dogs fur and not the hair on your head?

I've never questioned tipping my dog groomer. Any time someone performs a service for me I believe they deserve a tip. Obviously this is something I could do myself, but it is something I wouldn't want to do. It's a hard job and depending on the dog could potentially put you at risk. There are a lot of costs and a lot of time that goes into each dog. I feel that $50 to get my dog groomed is a bargain. Since the groomer does a nice job, I feel that they deserve a nice tip. I don't see any difference in having my dogs hair cut or my own hair cut, so I don't see why I wouldn't tip.

My dog has allergies, so he has to go to get a bath once a week now. Then once a month he gets a full service grooming. Each and everytime he visits the groomer receives a tip from me, I only feel it is fair.

I'm actually quite surprised to hear that so many people don't tip. I'm sorry to hear that you have to do all that work and not get paid what you deserve.

Thanks. It really was surprising to me to see that people don't tip you. I think that it is a given that this service should be tipped. I think it is terrible. Hopefully more people will tip you. Good luck with your business!! Report It

Look, when you are at a hairdressers YOU are getting you haircut and YOU tip, its not like a dog can tip the groomers...

I tip my dog groomer. I have a feeling the non-dog groom tippers probably stiff their hair dressers, too. Cheap so and SOs.

You NEVER tip the owner of a business! it is an insult. If you get your hair done by the owner of a salon you would NOT tip them but you would tip an employee because they usually work for their tips. So if you own your own business you should not be looking for tips!

This isn't really an answer, but I have to say THANK YOU for saying something. I never really thought about it before reading your post. Of course it costs me $12 to get my hair cut and $48 for my Scottie, so perhaps that's why.

My groomer charges $70 to do my dogs. It is actually a team that does the grooming. I always pay $100, so there is enough tip to go around. (Afghan Hound)

Why does almost everyone need tips these days? I'm confused on who I should or shouldn't tip anymore. So I usually tip my barber if they're good and friendly, and when I go out to eat if the service was great. Sometimes, I'll tip others if it's earned.

P.S. You shouldn't call people stupid if you run your own business, and show your face in a picture. (esp. if you're ugly). Your attitude doesn't seem business friendly. No wonder you're getting stiffed. (DOG groomer...good name for you..er...I mean your business.)
