Can you help suggest something for my dog's hair loss issues??

I am becoming concerned about my dog Jackie. She is beginning to get bald spots and loose hair near/under both her back legs. I first thought it was nothing to be worried about when it was small..but now the spot is getting bigger and there is another area or baldness under her stomach/belly area. Im wondering if I should get her checked out or if it is minor then I can treat it myself...? suggestions?

ALthough it may be a minor skin issue, it could also be ring worm (that causes baldness). It would be worth it to have the vet see it.

Have her checked out since animals can have all kinds of skin issues. The most possible cause would be skin allergies caused by food, fleas, or dust. The dry winter air could also be irritating it. Your vet will be able to better determine to problem so you can get a quicker solution. Hope this helps!

You should get her checked.Maybe you can ask your vet where to get some hair loss preventation stuff!

he needs more iorn...look for foods that specialize in that. i would ask a vet, it seems to be getting serious.

You need to take your doggy to the vet. This sounds like it could be a mite. It sounds like it's getting worse so....don't let it keep getting worse and irritating your poor friend. Also sometimes worms can steal nutrition from your pet and they don't get what they need to stay healthy. If you were losing your hair, you would go to the doc right away. So, your family member needs to see her vet.

maby she has some skin allergies, or maby you are washing her 2 much. 2 much washing and scrubbing can lead to loss of hair. if you stop for a wile and it is still growing, consult a vet.

try a moisturizing shampoo. i once used conditioner on my dog for some hair loss and it seemed to work.

Jackie needs to go to the vet.. It could be a skin irriatation or even an allergy...or it could be a thyroid issue, which Jackie would need a blood test, I would take your pup and have her checked out...better safe than sorry...

Depending on how old Jackie is could help indicate whether you should be seeing a vet sooner rather than later.

If she is over 8 yrs of age you will also need to consider diseases such as

: Hyperadrenocorticism (cushings disease)

: Hypothyriodism (underactive thyriod)

Both of these diseases cause thinning and hair loss.

If Jackie is younger it could be

:Allergies

: Ring worm or other fungal/bacterial skin conditions

:Mites

:Fleas

This could be minor and treatable or it could be an internal problem like a thyroid condition, so I would say bring her in to the vet. Without seeing the areas, that's about all anyone could say.

hold old is your dog? it might be helpful to get a brush that picks up hair once a dog sheds. you brush the dog...and it gets ALL the hair on him off.....the hair thats been shedding, not to where hes bald

I would go ahead and take your pooch to the vet. My dog had the same symptoms and she ended up having mange. It is treatable, but you want to catch it fast as it could be contagious. It could also just be hot spots, but I would rather be safe than sorry. Good luck!!

It could be many things. Mange comes to mind. There are 2 types of mange, one of which is not contagious. The only way to tell is to have a vet do a skin scraping to see.

The other thing I think of is a thyroid condition. That can cause patches of baldness.

And then there's just allergies, ets. The only way to know for sure is to go to the vet and mention these things and have them ckeck it out.

take her to the vet to be checked for hot spots. they will tell you how to handle it.
