My dog will not let me cut his hair we just dont have to 50$ to get it cut right now?

do you have any advice for a stubborn dog who snaps at you when you cut his hair?

My dog will not let me cut his hair we just dont have to 50$ to get it cut right now?

No, it is unaccetable for any dog to snap at the owner for any reason. Consult a Canine behaviorist. BTW, a groomer will not groom a dog that bites either, how mean would that be to take your dog that bites and dump him on someone else?!

Muzzle.

Or desensitize. This will take you a long time. Approach the dog with the scissors, and lay the scissors next to the dog. Give the dog a very VALUABLE (steak, hot dog, cheese) treats. Keep doing this while moving the scissors closer and closer to the dog. Then take them in your hand, reward, continue until you are able to feed the dog WHILE cutting the dog's fur.

BYB- Unfortunately, most dog owners give their biting dogs to the groomers.

put a muzzle on, and have 2 peopl help, one hold the dog, 2 cut the dogs fur, good luck!!

Buy a muzzle to protect yourself but get him accustomed to the sound of the clippers, the feeling of brushes and combs. If it's a big dog, get help in calming and restraining him.

Yes, don't do it, he apparently is afraid of how he will look, ha ha

no for real, be careful, you can muzzle him, is the way to teach him to sit for you..........I must warn you, some dogs do not like muzzles either

good luck

have a partner to help hold him, and feed him treats while you do it.

little dog? wrap him in a towel if your doing the head, or wrap his head in a towel if your doing his body?

Like others have said.....a muzzle. You can easily make one by cutting a leg off of a pair of panty hose. Tie a slip knot, slide it over the dog's muzzle, knot side up, tighten and tie again underneath chin, then take the ends and tie behind their ears. Works great, and is soft and doesn't cause harm, providing you don't intentionally over tighten it.

My dog will not let me cut his hair we just dont have to 50$ to get it cut right now?

1)try asking it to sit and stay

2)put a treat in front of it

3)cut his hair gently

4)let him eat the treat

this works for my dog cuz he knows that if he cooperates then he gets his treat!

How old is your dog and how often do you bathe him?

It sounds as if he may not be used to having a bath or being groomed?

If so, you need to acclimatize him to bath time and also give him rewards after you bath him. He needs to trust you enough to let you cut areas he feels anxious or threatened by him in some way. It takes time to do this but it's worth it to save money in the long run.

If he snaps at you then you might need to get a muzzle at first until he gets used to have his facial hair cut. He also needs to be repriminded in someway for snapping at you - if he doesn't know what he is doing is wrong, he will keep doing it.

My dog used to hate baths and getting his hair cut. But now I bathe him every two weeks and he is a good buy. No muzzle but he will behave. I usually let him rest his jaw on my palm and slowly snip away.

After bath time and he is dry he knows a treat is in hand so he runs to the pantry and wait for me to give him his snacks.

Your dog is not stubborn, it is uncomfortable and afraid of having his hair cut. You need to counter condition and desensitize the dog to being clipped. Make sure you never cut or nick the dog in the process.

There is a great video on youtube showing how a dog was clicker trained in under an hour to having his nails clipped. If you have never trained your dog or learned how dogs learned new skills you should also read some good books. You'll find them here

What kind of dog is it that would be $50 for a haircut? Regardless, you need a muzzle on that dog! Also, a grooming noose attached to a grooming arm that is attached to a table. Getting the dog up on a table helps with control. Sometimes a dog has enough of a fight drive to disallow you doing anything so you have to take steps to be able to show him how to allow you to do it without him going off on you. With a muzzle, the dog should stand still (sometimes it calms them). If he thrashes, back away just a touch until he settles then when you approach move slowly. Do NOT talk to your dog. The only communication he needs is through how you touch him. Make him listen to your hands, not your voice.

Thats a bloody nuisance when they won't play ball on this one, dog groomers are extortionate in their fees as you've just found out! Get yourself some hair clippers, the ones for our own hair is what i use and you can pick a set, all combs and scissors included, up for around a tenner which is about $7 / $8 in your money! Dogs get a bit wary of being up high without sufficient control over what they're doing so do what i do - get your ironing board out! Raise it to your height and make sure its locked in safely so's it won't collapse when you sit Master Stubborn ha ha. Turn on the clippers before you start so that he know's what the noise is later on, let him sniff them and if he wants, lay them at his feet! Put him on the ironing board and comb him through as the groomer would then start snipping at his hair, the sounds of the scissors may make him on edge but perserve. Chop of his longer locks until you get to his first coat, the bit that needs shaving with the noisy clippers! This is the moment dogs go a bit hyper, they're scared is all it is but reassure him constantly - stroking him and holding him and telling him his mummys best boy, you know how they love all that praise ha ha. Turn the clippers on but don't hide them behind your back to be kind to him, he needs to see whats coming and will appreciate it. Once the clippers a whirring start on his lower flanks then work up towards his shoulders, talking to him ALL the time. KEEP telling him he's the best lad for having this done and how handsome he'll be by the end of it! If others are there with you you'll see an awful lot of eyes going skyward ha ha, they'll think you're nuts but who's having the last laugh saving $50.00??? If he should play up whilst he's on the ironing board, stay firm and consistant in your vocals, he's staying up there whether he likes it or not! He won't jump, he'll be too wary but its not cruel honest, i do it all the time and now mine just sit there no trouble. He may lay down the full length of the ironing board as defience but just put your hand under his belly and lift him up. Once he's been clipped by the shearers use the scissors to do around his eyes and ears and nails. he may let you cut his nails on the board but don't count on it! I paid a lot of money over the years for my jack/yorkie cross to have his nails cut! He'd go like a loon until last year ( he's eleven this year !!! ) when he was in the bath of all places! I checked his nails thinking - more bloody money ha ha when instead of snatching his paw away, he let me hold it and examine his ' man fridays' as i used to call them ha ha ha. I pushed my luck and grabbed the nail clippers, revelation - HE LET ME do them! Now, when his nails grow long, its into the bath for him, without the water, it has the same effect! If, at any point, he growls, show's his teeth or snaps at you, shout very loudly -NO, and carry on with what you're doing, he must not be allowed to dictate your rules mum! It may take a week to cut his hair, did me with my bischon ha ha but i got there in the end. Now, all three of my boys will sit quietly on the ironing board for their hair cuts and nail clipping bar one, he has to go in the bath ha ha. Perseverence is the name of the game here my friend, keep it up and you'll save yourself an absolute fortune, give in to the whining and snapping and you;ll be forking out for the rest of his life!!! Good luck to you.

dont put yourself at risk. putting a muzzle on a dog isnt gona stop the dog from jumping around. even if you have someone hold the dog down with a muzzle on you might take a chance of really goofing up its hair. my dog had to be sedated just to take a bath. if you dont have the money right now you might need to wait until you do and have him sedated just to get it done right. dont do something you will hate later. good luck

My dog is losing a lot of his hair, I know some shedding is normal but I'm worried.?

My dog has had valley fever for about 5 mths now and lately he's been losing a lot of his hair, in clumps. I'm worried, is this normal?

My dog is losing a lot of his hair, I know some shedding is normal but I'm worried.?

The loss of hair is due to exccesive sweet intake.

Avoide giving sweet to your dog.

My dog is losing a lot of his hair, I know some shedding is normal but I'm worried.?

if it has fleas and ticks you mite want to get medical help and take it to the vet or somthing

My dog is losing a lot of his hair, I know some shedding is normal but I'm worried.?

Where can i buy safe hair dye for a dog, food coloring or vegetable dye will work? Anyone ever color

Have you ever dyed your white haired doggie, and how do you do it safely?

Where can i buy safe hair dye for a dog, food coloring or vegetable dye will work? Anyone ever color their dog

Why would you want to dye your dog???

Why would you want to color your dog. That is just crazy and not good/healthy for the dog.

That is sick and twisted! Who are you? Paris Hilton? Your dog doesn't have to match your outfit!

Food coloring works and is safe for the dog (Ingestible).

There is not a safe way to do this. You dog will naturally clean himself, therefore eating the dye. You will be poisoning your dog!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT YOU DYE YOUR DOG!!!!!!

THat is horrible!!

Where can i buy safe hair dye for a dog, food coloring or vegetable dye will work? Anyone ever color their dog

Vegetable dyes, food coloring, kool aide solution which can rub off onto furniture. There is also Manic Panic but you don't want them ingesting to much of the semi permanent dyes. We used to see pink and blue toy poodles that were actually white all the time. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is doable.

Go to your groomer and ask people do it all the time

Kool-ade (sugar free!). If you're just doing a small bit of color, non-toxic markers can work. I used to have a friend who gave her American Eskimo a "gay pride" mohawk with markers - she'd do the whole rainbow!

I've used washable markers on my light colored dog before. Plus the crayola washable markers are non-toxic.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

Not really inside, but you now, by, around, somewhere inside his ears. He is a Shih tzu pup and he is growing...and the hairs are making him uneasy and itchy...

Do I trim it or something? Any suggestions?

Thank you

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

I have a short haired dog. When I take him to shows I use my horse clippers (electric) to trim the hair inside and outside his ears. It's quick, simple, and painless.

I'm not a professional dog groomer or anything, but I would discourage you from plucking the hairs on the inside of your dog's ears. That sounds really painful/scary/uncomfortable for him.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

Trim it if it is bothering him but be careful. It may be growing down into his ear you may need to pull it out.If you get your dog groomed I would tell the groomer and see what he says.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

I am a professional groomer. You must pluck the hair from inside the ear canal to let air circulate. it should be pink and clean. If there are outer hairs that are making your baby itchy, use a small scissor to trim the hair just around the ear canal to keep him or her more comfortable.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

There is a medicated ear powder you can put in your dogs ear,( so your fingers dont slip off the hair b/c that will hurt) then you just pull it out. And i would be careful b/c your dog may try to bite you, so i would have someone hanging around just in case. And your dog will probably scream but it doesn't hurt them.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

get some hemostats and pluck the hair out a few hairs at a time. this needs to be done at least 1x per month or he will get bad ear infections.

What do I do with the hair growing inside my dog's ear?

Trim it or take him to the groomers and they will do it for you. Hair can get stuck inside their ears and cause infection. Groomers usually check for this and pull it out if it's deep in their ears.

What will happen if your dog loses hair?

get it a sweater.

What will happen if your dog loses hair?

nothing will happen, it is just shedding... all dogs do it... it is a part of life... nothing serious... if you start to get worried, take your dog to the vet.

What will happen if your dog loses hair?

Depends on why they are losing hair... they could have the mange.. and you could get it too

What will happen if your dog loses hair?

It will be bald.

What will happen if your dog loses hair?

How much hair is your dog losing? If it's normal shedding due to the summer coming on, fine. But if he/she is losing a great deal of hair, then it could be a thyroid problem and he/she needs to go to the vet.

Am I allergic to short-hair dogs?

I am an absolute pet lover and I have never had any allergies. I've had a dog as a pet since the day I was born and have had at least 9 dogs come and go in my life till the present. I currently own a wonderful 5 year old female miniature shih tzu who has semi-long hair. We bathe her at least once every three weeks to a month. I have absolutely no problems with her. About a week ago I brought home a female miniature pinscher. so far she has already taken 3 baths. whenever I hold her in my arms, the skin that has been in contact with her will become red and real itchy and sometimes gets a little bumpy. whenever she gives me kisses on my face, those parts of my face will turn red. When I brought her home I noticed she has some dandruff. Am I allergic to her dander? If so, what can i do to prevent dandruff and help moisturize her skin? and why would I be allergic to only her and not my shih tzu, or other dogs i encounter?

Am I allergic to short-hair dogs?

Yup that's a classic case of contact dermatitis (allergic reaction). Just wash the areas that have been touched as soon as possible so the bumps don't start and the itching ceases. Every pet is different so there is just something about this dog that causes the reaction. I know I react differently to my 2 cats. The "dandruff" you see probably isn't the issue but it still requires some attention. It's more likely the skin condition bothers the dog and she scratches and licks more and that's what the problem is. Her saliva is the most likely culprit.

Am I allergic to short-hair dogs?

If you take a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day, your allergy will be CURED. The local honey works with your body to develop immunities to all the air born irritants around you like pet dander, mold, mildew, smog, and pollen. This really works but it takes a while to do so. You will also notice, over time, that you get less cold and flu symptoms as well.

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

My Shih Tzu Puppy managed to discover a blue ink pen and chewed on it until the ink leaked out all over the carpet and the puppy - so now I have a blue puppy and stained carpet

Help!

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

Cleaning dog...EASY! Just soap and warm water...carpet...more difficult...apply paper towel and pull at strands...then a clean one with warm soapy water...pull at strands esp. with shag carpet. I don't advise chemicals at all.

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

try mean green on the carpet but the dog you will probably have to cut the dogs hair

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

my puppy did that for awhile too...you're gonna want to hide all the pens, or not leave them where the pupppy can get them. All of the blue ink may not come out the first day, but don't freak out. if you use a good puppy shampoo he'll be good as new sooner than you think. also, a trick my husband uses is he used my conditioner on the puppy so if she got into anything sticky, or ink it was easier to get out the next time...good luck!

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

Hairspray or straight rubbing alcohol will break down the ink. After that give him a bath.

Getting Blue Ink out of Dog Fur / Hair?

Wash the dog, that should help. If not you can clip her, or she'll shed out the affected hair.
